The right entrance matting for every situation
Rinos manufactures entrance matting to fit every situation. To determine what the best mat is for your customer, simply answer the following two questions: is there an outdoor mat at the entrance? And how much traffic is there through the building?
Our entrance matting is used for entrance areas, reception areas, storage spaces, warehouses, lifts, pantries and heavy traffic areas where safety footwear and heavy profile shoes are worn. The examples below will help you determine which mat is the right one for every situation.
A good example of a high traffic location is a secondary school. With nearly a thousand students coming and going all day long, entrance matting has to cope with all this traffic. In this instance, entrance matting with an A or C label is necessary.
Examples of high traffic locations where our entrance matting is used:
- Larger offices over several floors
- Public buildings
- Stores and showrooms with many visitors
- Restaurants and cafés with many visitors
- Trains in various European countries
- Cruise ships
- Hospitals and care institutions
For a one-story office building a new entrance mat is required. In the morning most of the personnel enters the building and walks out again in the evening. Movement in the meantime can be ignored. In this case a mat with a B or D label is essential.
Examples of medium traffic locations where our mats are used are:
- houses for living
- small one-story offices
- shops and showrooms with a limited number of visitors
- restaurants and cafes with a limited number of visitors
When a shop facility is frequently visited, often with dirty feet, an outdoor mat is needed. The existing indoor mat will not be sufficient. In this case an outdoor mat is required: a mat with an E label.
Rinos will help you choose
In order to help your customers make the right choice in every situation we have specifically developed the mat matrix. This is a selection guide to find out at a glance which is the best product for every situation. We label all our products with the mat matrix reference.
Scraping entrance matting
type A and B
The combination of soft and coarse yarns double the qualities of the scraping mats: the coarse yarns scrape the dirt from the feet, whilst the soft yarns absorb moisture. Although an outdoor mat is not required where entrance matting is in place it might contribute to an even cleaner interior.
Absorbent entrance matting
type C and D
Absorbent entrance matting is largely made up of soft yarns that are capable of absorbing dirt and are optimised for moisture absorption. In order to keep dirt outside more effectively, we recommend combining with an outdoor mat.
An outdoor mat is designed to catch and collect dirt. With its scraping function it ensures that coarse dirt is kept outside in particular. Outdoor matting is used in combination with absorbing matting in the entrance in order to prevent moisture from being brought in. An Outdoor mat is easy to rinse clean and dries quickly.
Wear and tear goes unnoticed. And this applies to entrance matting as well. Our entrance matting boasts a more robust structure than ordinary floor coverings. We use specially treated thicker yarns and a firm backing. And it is far better suited to absorbing moisture and trapping dirt. Maintenance remains a key concern however. Daily vacuuming is important. In professional settings the mat must be treated twice a year using a brush extraction method.
Reasons why a mat is no longer functioning properly:
- The dirtier it is, the less the mat will absorb. If there is no longer any space between the pile nothing can be absorbed. And more dirt is brought into the building.
- The sand found in a mat can be as sharp as a knife. The pile gets severed and flattened. Space for collecting dirt disappears.
- Over time a mat fills up with dirt. The pile closes up and no longer functions properly.
Whenever this occurs, it is time to replace the entrance mat.
Sufficient surface area
Often entrance matting in buildings is not extensive enough. Most dirt and moisture are absorbed within six footsteps. Consequently, the optimum size for entrance matting is six metres. If space does not allow for such, certainly try to install three metres of entrance flooring. And quite simply: the bigger the mat, the more dirt and moisture are absorbed. Not enough room for this inside? If not, then we can increase the dust control surface area with an outdoor mat.
Rinos selects better yarns
We choose polyamide yarns for our entrance matting instead of the more widely used polypropylene. This yarn boasts the following benefits:
- The greater resilience of the pile ensures greater sand and dirt capacity.
- The yarns are more hard-wearing and more durable.
